Mission Statement
The mission of the Northwoods Singers is to provide an opportunity for vocalists in the community to participate in the preparation and performance of high quality choral music, to present this music to the local community and to provide cultural opportunities and educational outreach to our audiences, chorus members, and local youth.
Growth
To improve and grow as a choir, the Singers continually strive to recruit committed, talented vocalists. Although new members are accepted twice a year, the group is always recruiting. In addition, the Singers are a dedicated core of members who are enthusiastic about the mission and choral involvement is an important priority. Dr. Lee guides the group to grow musically and the members encourage one another in the performance of the selected music. The singers work towards increasing awareness of the choir by publicizing the concerts, events, and chorus news through a multifaceted approach.
MembershipWho We Are
The Northwoods Singers welcomes vocalists from Northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The Singers are committed to performing quality choral music; thus, musical standards and expectations are set high and choral literature is chosen to meet these standards. Instrumentalists are included in many of our concerts, thereby enhancing the performance experience.
About Us
The Northwoods Singers was organized with the arrival of Dr. Pamalyn Lee in the fall of 2005. An official board was formed, and by 2006, the Singers were incorporated as a tax exempt organization. The Northwoods Singers continued to attract vocalists from the North Woods. Under Dr. Lee’s leadership, vocal workshops were sponsored, additional outreach performances for local civic groups were scheduled, and the scope of choral material presented in both holiday and spring concerts continued to evolve. Furthermore, instrumentalists were added to augment the performances. A regular salary for both the conductor and the musicians was established, and scholarships were awarded to promising young singers. Under Dr. Lee’s direction, the Northwoods Youth Choir was organized.
The Northwoods Singers are committed to improving the musical experience of both audience and choral members. Uniquely, the Singers are also dedicated to healthy vocalization by learning breathing techniques and vocal relaxation exercises. Future plans call for concerts, workshops and outreach performance expansion
